Turns out, if you want to start your own craft business at home, you’ve got plenty of company. In a survey conducted by business group Enterprise Nation and Direct Line Business, it became apparent that the creative sector (that includes you) represents nearly a third of the 2.9 million home based businesses – that’s almost a million people like you and me who run creative businesses at home.
Other interesting nuggets include the fact that nearly two thirds are women, with all ages and circumstances represented. The vast majority expect to see their business grow over the coming year and 65% plan to keep their businesses at home in the long term. And why not? MakingYourOwnCandles.co.uk is a six figure business based entirely from a workshop and office at home. Over two thirds of the people surveyed were running their first ever business and their main concern was lack of guidance.
In fact, my only criticism is their use of the truly execrable “homepreneur” label. Unforgivable. There’s nothing wrong with being a businessperson!
